a haunted house
a storm
on a black shore
haunted

by a face
that launched
a thousand ships

we slipped ourselves
into a daze
where the night vibrated
hollow and decayed

the spectacle begins to burn
i said
as the smoke of our memories
rose

unsure of itself
up to heaven.
to be magnified

we held each other close
as the vagrant sun
fell asleep beneath the sea

in a crown of flames.
an infinite illusion dispelled
all that had come before --

but let them wonder
where the heart lives
(not through that door

not in broken houses
full of ghosts)
